Punk Scene
In my ongoing project Punk Scene I aim to document contemporary punk scene through the lives of individuals who identify with this subculture. Everyone knows about New York and British punk scene from 70s, former names such as Sex Pistols or Ramones. But how does the scene look like today and who are the people preserving this once so popular culture?
By visiting illegal squatting places in Amsterdam or alternative underground venues in Bratislava, I am exploring the current punk scene within Slovakia - place where I come from and the Netherlands - country where I am currently based. Growing oppression against independent culture and mass closing of art institutions that used to serve as a space for free expression in Slovakia reminds us of importance to preserve an image of those places for future generations. Through this project, I want to bring closer inspiring stories of different punkheads and show the power, resistance and rebellion that once gave rise to this movement and still keeps it alive today.
